On Friday, 31 October, Garden Cities NPC (RF) hosted its “Beyond the Green Guides” Workshop at the Northridge Coastal Estate Community Facility — a proudly 4-star Sustainable Precinct. The session, facilitated by Icologie, brought together key professionals from across the built environment value chain, including consultants, architects, contractors, and suppliers.

A 690 metre section of ‘Green’ kerbs and channels for an ensuing servicing project at Garden Cities’ prime west coast suburb, Sunningdale, incorporates 1.63 tonnes of waste plastic converted into a high-performance aggregate which was added to the concrete mix.

In 2017, Garden Cities implemented the Mosselbank River Rehabilitation programme, which since its inception has been guided by a Conservation Management Plan co-ordinated by VULA Environmental Services. The river is a non-perennial tributary of the Diep River and flows in a north-north-westerly direction through Garden Cities’ Greenville housing development.

Members of the Mosselbank River Conservation team responsible for the remarkable rehabilitation progress over the past five years in Greenville Garden City, recently turned their attention to the private Dune Thicket conservation area at Northridge Coastal Estate (NCE), Africa’s first four star sustainable precinct, in Sunningdale.

Residential development Greenville Garden City, near Fisantekraal, is enrolled for Edge certification, a protocol which offers developers, financiers, investors and other key collaborators the opportunity to meet the Green Building expectations of progressive consumers who want to save money, while living in water and energy efficient spaces.

Five years ago in 2017, Garden Cities launched an environmental education collaborative in Greenville and invited various organisations – ranging from local NGOs to government entities – to offer their support for the programme.
