On 23 July 2024 the local team working on the eastern tributary of the Mosselbank River noted Flamingos on the river. Since the inception of the rehabilitation project in 2017, this was the first time that these beautiful birds had been observed at the seasonal valley-bottom wetlands.
This was a momentous moment for the team working on the river rehabilitation programme, as it is evidence of improved habitat quality leading to better food availability, resorted nesting sites and connectivity between other wetlands/aquatic bodies.

There will eventually be 16 000 homes on 767ha at Greenville Garden City, an entirely new town established in 2016, where the first phase comprised BNG (Breaking New Ground) subsidised homes. Further stages will include a broad range of properties covering the entire economic spectrum.
A Community/Youth centre is currently under construction with the anticipated completion date of April 2022. The facility will serve the entire community, including Fisantekraal. Two community sites have been acquired by NGOs that will provide much-needed services to the broader community, especially children and young adults. The very first church site sale in Greenville is currently under way.
A temporary school is now fully operational, and the second phase is under construction. More engagements with Public Works are ongoing for the purchase of another school site.
The Clinic will be up and running by end of 2021. A skills school in partnership with Tjeka FET College has since been completed and operational. Shoprite U Save is currently under construction and anticipated to be completed by the end of the year.
So far, the project has created over 150 job opportunities for local residents, who have been employed since the beginning. Six local sub-contractors were also afforded an opportunity to participate as part of the Enterprise and Supplier Development Programme, using local labour.
